Jonathan Barkat grew up in Cape May, New Jersey and attented college in Philadelphia. After graduation he moved to New York where he lived for six years before returning to Philadelphia. Though he first enjoyed working with a camera in high school, the first part of his college years were spent painting and drawing before turning again to photography. This background in painting and drawing informs his works and approach to image making.
His work has been recognized by Communication Arts, Photo Distict News, and the International Photography Awards. In addition to commissioned work he spends as much time as possible shooting personal images.
When not shooting or looking for new locations he can found spending time with his wife, their two daughters, and their two dogs. He also enjoys playing guitar and mountain biking.
